Migrate from Text (LiveChat)
Bring your LiveChat chat history, customers and canned responses into Kognit with a personal access token.
2 min readUpdated October 2026
Text (formerly LiveChat Software) keeps your chats in LiveChat's archives. Kognit imports them through the LiveChat API.
What comes across
| From LiveChat | Becomes in Kognit |
|---|---|
| Canned responses | Saved replies |
| Archived chats, with who said what | Inbox conversations (channel: chat), tagged Imported from LiveChat |
| Files shared in chats | Copied into Kognit, so they keep working after you close LiveChat |
| Customers in those chats (with an email) | Customers, merged with anyone already in Kognit with that email |
Tickets from Text's separate HelpDesk product aren't read by the API import. Export them as a CSV and use Import from a file.
Imported conversations are history: they don't trigger automations, CSAT surveys or SLA timers, until a customer writes again on one.
Before you start: create a token
- Open the LiveChat Developer Console (developers.livechat.com) and sign in with your LiveChat account.
- Go to Settings → Personal access tokens and create a token.
- Give it the scopes chats--all:ro (your chat archives) and canned_responses--groups:ro (your canned responses).
- Copy the token. Either the Base64 token the console shows, or
account ID:token, works.
Run the import
- In Kognit, open Settings → Import & export.
- Under From Text (LiveChat), paste the token and click Import from LiveChat.
- Kognit checks the token, then imports canned responses first and chats after. Your imports shows progress, and the import keeps going if you leave the page.
Good to know
- No canned-responses scope? The chats still import, and the import tells you the scope that was missing.
- Running it again is safe: nothing is duplicated, and conversations you've answered in Kognit since aren't overwritten.
- The token is stored encrypted only while the import runs, then deleted.
- Older conversations are under Load older conversations at the bottom of the inbox list.
